Turning the lit(erary) upside down…

It all started when . . .

In the spring of 2018, two young women of color were trying to find a way into publishing (unsuccessfully). And they had many a discussion about the state of the industry — its lack of inclusion and representation at every step of the publication process, from the stories being acquired to the book designer and production staff. Its limp attempts to right those wrongs. They both wanted so much more for publishing – they wanted more for the readers like themselves and those they hoped to someday serve.

But what could they do? They couldn’t change it from the inside, at least not yet. But did that make them powerless? HELL NO!

Together they founded The NONAC, a digital networking platform devoted to cultivating unheard, rising creative talents. In the process, we want to subvert the literary canon, change the publishing industry’s practices, and build strong connections for future talent to thrive.
